More IIT students take to research
Chennai: Students are growing more interested in resÂeaÂrch of late at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, with 500 of them now actively invÂolÂved in its research progrÂamme, according to its director, Prof. Bhaskar RamÂaÂÂmurthi.
Releasing the second edition of its magazine , Immerse, focusing on the research done by its students and faculty hereon Friday, he revealed the faculty-research scholar ratio was now 1:1 at the IIT-M.
“ Some of the work done by the students has had commercial value as well,’’ he said, noting that the incÂrease in the number of resÂeÂarch schÂolars would lead to greater interaction betÂween them and undergraduate students.
Meanwhile, dean (students ) of the IIT-M , Prof. L.S. Ganesh listed the main events of the four-day ShaÂastra festival that kicks off on January 4.
Envisage, the first student-run tech show, is back in a bigger and better avaÂtar this year as part of the festival.
IITians have gearÂed up to set a world record for the largest colour display and are also ready to take to the sky with Shaastra’s favoÂurite Air Show.
With world-renoÂwned heli-flyers like GunÂther Gold and 14-year-old Marian Mader likely to participate in the event, students are hoping it will be one of a kind and hold audiences spellbound.
