Techie from Alappuzha gets patent for new sensor tap
Kochi: An MTech student from Alappuzha was granted patent for developing a sensor faucet and control flow kit with automatic and manual functions.
Vani. V, who leads Spintech Electronics at Kodupunna in Alappuzha, was given the patent for the dual valve and motor and gear technology in sensor faucets.
The young techie holds a BTech degree in Electronics and Communication and is now pursuing her MTech in Embedded Systems at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani.
“The chief drawback of the sensor faucets available in the market is their failure to dispense water in case of a sensor or electronic failure. A lot of wastage occurs till a technician arrives and rectifies the fault.
The patented product named Spinflow offers a solution in the form of a valve unit which routes water directly to the faucet if the electronic unit goes faulty, ensuring water by manual operation till the problem is rectified,” she said.
The idea was to manage the flow of water from the existing ordinary taps in the kitchen through an external sensor controlled mechanism, she said.
