TD, YSRC unite against division
Vijayawada: The bandh call given by the APNGOs against bifurcation of the state evoked a good response on Friday with all state government offices, banks, insurance offices and private educational institutions, commercial establishments remaining closed.
Telugu Desam, YSR Congress and various trade associations and education institutions had extended support to the bandh. The APNGOs staged a dharna in front of the Pandit Nehru Bus Station from 6 am to 10 am and later took out a bike rally on Bandar Road and Eluru road, where APNGOs leader A. Vidya Sagar said the fight against bifurcation would continue.
The APNGOs later staged a dharna near the sub-collector’s office where TD MP K. Narayana said that the party would oppose the T-Bill in Parliament. Meanwhile, YSRC cadre took out a rally and staged protests. The party activists asked the traders to down the shutters and observe bandh.
In I-Town, both the YSRC and the TD parties enforced the bandh. Traders downed their shutters and expressed their solidarity to the APNGOs and political parties.
Meanwhile, the APSRTC suspended its city and suburban services on Friday due to impact of the bandh. Educational institutions remained closed as the managements declared a holiday. Heavy bandobust had been made in the city since Thursday night. The bandh was passed off peacefully.
