A fresh atonement
In the past year, many musicians from Bengaluru concentrated on their solo projects. Also, there were certain bands that rose in the charts of popularity with their experimental music. Now, looking forward to 2014, here is our list of five bands who have created a stir in the independent music scene. They tell us what they have planned for the new year.
Parvaaz
This blues/progressive rock band from Bengaluru that received critical acclaim for its EP, Behosh, started a movement in which they have requested their fans to contribute funds for their upcoming debut album. They have already raised Rs 66,200 out of the Rs 2,50,000 required.
“We are also currently planning an international tour around Europe after the release of the album,” says Khalid Ahmed, the vocalist.
Mad Orange Fireworks
This band will take their orange rock to the silver screen this year. They have zeroed in on two of their best songs, Black Hole and On the Ledge for a music video to be released early in 2014. The band has currently gone back to their original three-piece line-up.
“There are certain cities like Mumbai and Delhi in India where we have not performed. So, we are currently planning a tour of the Indian west coast and that will cover the two cities as well. We have also changed our sound into a very raw and high-energy sound,” Michael Dias of Mad Orange Fireworks.
De’ Sat
This metal band that stormed into the world of popularity in 2013 is currently planning an album, which they will release in mid-2014.
“We are also planning a tour in support of the album but nothing is confirmed yet because of issues regarding dates and venues. We are also planning to do a fund-raising event for the Child Fund India Organisation,” says Victor Mckertich, lead guitarist of De’ Sat.
Solder
Even though Solder has been quite popular among rock music fans in Bengaluru since its inception, the band is yet to come out with its debut album. This year will finally see the much awaited album from Solder.
“Since our long overdue album will be out by the end of 2014, the first half of the year will see us concentrating more on music festivals. We are already on board at the Storm Festival in Bengaluru. The rest is yet to be decided. We are also planning to take our music to cities that we have not performed in,” says Siddharth Abraham, vocalist of Solder.
Allegro Fudge
The band is currently hitting the studios to produce their second album. This album will see the band record with a lot of orchestral arrangements as well as a choir.
“It will be an entirely different production. The songs will involve a lot of theatrics on stage and so they have become a lot more orchestral. When we promote the album in a show, there will be theatrical performances as well. Compared to our earlier album, which is folk-rock, this upcoming album will be a huge transition in our sound,” says Jason Zacariah, pianist of Allegro Fudge.
