Bandh evokes poor response
Nellore/Prakasam: The bandh called by Samaikya Rashtra Parirakshana Samiti evoked mixed response in Nellore and Prakasam districts. The bandh called in Seemandhra region to exert maximum pressure on the people’s representatives even as the state Assembly reassembled to resume discussion on the draft AP Reorganisation Bill-2013, evoked little response from the public.
Barring schools and colleges which closed down owing to the bandh call, business was as usual in both Nellore and Prakasam districts. Across Nellore district, activists of the YSR Congress took up agitations as per the instructions of the party’s leadership.
In Nellore, YSRC activists held demonstrations at various places and resorted to road blockades for a few hours. The YSRC leaders called upon the Seemandhra leaders cutting across party lines to pledge strong support for the integrity of the state and make all out efforts to resolve in favour of Samaikyandhra through the discussions in the Assembly on the draft AP Reorganisation Bill.
While educational institutions closed down voluntarily, business establishments, barring for a few hours, banks, government and private offices functioned normally. Life remained unaffected across Nellore district with RTC and private buses, autorickshaws moving freely throughout the day.
Meanwhile, in Prakasam district too Samaikyandhra bandh lost steam with very little response from the general public and political parties.
In Ongole, Chirala and other parts of Prakasam district, YSRC activists staged demonstrations and raised slogans in support of a unified state for a few hours early in the morning. Educational institutions and colleges closed across Prakasam voluntarily owing to the bandh call.
