Woman alleges neighbor raped her for 8 yrs

Bangalore: A newlywed woman had the shock of her life when her 28-year-old husband of two days was arrested on charges of raping his neighbour repeatedly over the past eight years. The complaint surfaced as the suspect was making arran­gements for his honeymoon.

The police have identified the suspect as R. Arun Babu, a resident of Shiv­ajinagar, and a native of Chittoor district in Andhra Prad­esh. The police said the victim realised that she had been cheated by the suspect who allegedly promised that he would marry her, but didn’t.

On finding that Arun had married another wo­m­an, the victim reported the matter to the police, who nabbed the suspect just as he was making travel plans for his honeymoon with his newlywed wife.

The victim, a 26-year-old woman from Vasa­ntha­nagar, has told the police that she was Arun’s neighbour and they had fallen in love. Arun allegedly initiated a physical relationship with the victim by threatening her at knifepoint.

Subsequently, the victim claimed that she was raped in the nursing home wh­ere Arun was emp­loyed earlier, as well as on the railways lanes behind the CSI Hospital on Thim­maiah Road. She further claims that the suspect owed her Rs 3 lakh, said an investigating officer.

In her statements to the police, the victim said that Arun had promised to marry her. However, a few days ago, the victim learnt that Arun’s wedding had been fixed with another girl, the officer said.

On January 3, when the victim passed by his ho­use, she found out that Arun’s wedding was on the same day. She rushed to the police and reported the matter. Arun was arre­sted two days after his wedding on January 5 in a church at Coles Park.

Arun was reportedly n­ear Richm­ond Town whe­­re he had gone to book tickets for his honeymo­on, when the police cau­ght him.

Arun, who is suspected of having raped other wo­men with the sa­me pro­mise, has currently been lodged at the Par­appana Agrahara central prison after being rema­nded to judicial custody. Both the victim and the suspect have been subjected to medical tests at the Lady Curzon and Bowring Hospital.

Khammam: Cherla police on Monday arrested a registered medical practitioner (RMP) and a cattle-rearer on charges of rape and misbehaviour with two Dalit women in separate incidents.

According to reports, a 29-year-old unmarried woman had gone to RMP Vasanth Kumar’s clinic as she was suffering from fever. He is alleged to have taken her inside the observation room and asked her to remove her clothes. When she refused to do so, he forcibly tried to pull her clothes.

The woman managed to escape and went home. She then approached the police along with several local leaders.

In the second incident, a 26-year-old woman lodged a complaint against Gudavarthi Venateshwarlu, a cattle-rearer, that he tried to molest her on Sunday in an agricultural field.

Based on the women’s complaint, police booked both the accused under SC,ST Atrocities Act and rape.

ASP Prakash Reddy, who rushed in from Bhadrachalam, headed the investigations.

Rayachoti (Kadapa): Two minor girls were molested at the Rayudu colony in Raichoti town in Kadapa district on Monday.

DSP K. Harinath Babu said that Mahaboob Vali, 36, a labourer lured a 6-year-old girl staying near his house by offering chocolate on Sunday and took her on a motorcycle to a deserted place.

He molested the girl and returned after leaving her alone. Parents found the girl and lodged a complaint.

Police nabbed Mahaboob Vali and registered a case based. In another incident, a 10-year-old girl was sexually abused by a 55-year-old man in the same colony at Rayachoti 10 days ago.

The incident came to light on Monday. Nagarju offered chocolate to the girl and took her to his residence and made a rape attempt.

While nearby people gathered after the girl raised alarm and rescued her. The accused Nagaraju escaped. Police nabbed Nagaraju on Monday based on the complaint by victim’s parents.

Hyderabad: In a daring daylight robbery, robbers looted a pawn broker in Rein Bazaar. Three men, who came on a bike, entered the pawn shop on Monday afternoon.

While one flashed a pistol another pointed a dagger at the pawn broker and demanded he produce the gold and cash in the shop. The shop owner, Vijay Kumar Jain, handed over the ornaments and cash worth lakhs.

SI P. Upendra of Rein Bazaar said the three men, who were in their thirties, entered the shop when the owner Vijay Kumar Jain was alone.

A frightened Vijay Kumar gave gold ornaments weighing around 300 grams, silver ornaments and cash worth Rs 30,000 to them.

The robbers also opened the almirah and took ornaments. They later fled the spot. The cops who were informed in minutes, reached the spot immediately.

They registered a case under Section 386 (extortion) and are investigating. There was a surveillance camera in the shop, which is the only evidence.

“We got footage from the camera. It showed a person with a helmet, and another with a cap.

While one person’s face is visible, clarity is poor as the camera is old. However, we are working on the lead,” aaid P. Upendra. Kumar said he can’t identify the accused.

Visakhapatnam: A Vizag rural police team led by inspector V.V. Rao seized almost a tonne of ganja worth around Rs 50 lakh.

The cops arrested a smuggler while the drug peddlers were travelling in a van near the Satyav-aram area under V Madugula police station limits in the district on Monday. However, two ganja smugglers fled from the spot after seeing the cops.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the van, which was heading towards Vizag from V Madugula.

The police seized around 1,000 kg of ganja which was packed in around 40 gunny bags along with coconuts to mislead the cops.

The arrested man was identified as P Ramakrishna, 43, of V Madugula area and he procured the ganja from the interior areas of Vizag agency.

Inspector V.V. Rao said that two persons in the van escaped while the cops were checking the gunny bags in the vehicle.

The cops registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. and investigation is on.

Hyderabad: Beware of pizza delivery boys. The police has arrested a man for sending lewd messages to women using the numbers which they had provided while ordering pizzas. The accused, Laxman, 28, works as a part time pizza delivery boy.

Laxman is married and is pursuing MBA at Badruka College.

Laxman attends college in the morning and during evenings works as a delivery boy for a pizza outlet.

The customers, who order pizza, give addresses and contact numbers for delivery. Laxman checks for the numbers of women customers.

“While delivering the order to women if he finds them to be pretty, he saves their numbers and starts harassing them,” inspector Ashok said.

After saving the contact numbers, Laxman starts to contact the victims. He sends lewd messages and tries calling them frequently. “He misuses the numbers which he is supposed to keep only for delivering the order. He sends messages and tries calling them and harasses them.” Ashok said.

Based on a complaint lodged by one such victim, a case was registered. He was traced, arrested and remanded.

According to sources, Laxman, who belongs to a tribal community, had harassed about ten women.

Tirupati: The attack on a SV Music & Dance College teacher at his home in Tirupati shocked the temple town on Monday.

SV University police said that Simhachala Sastry, 42, a Harikatha teacher, staying at New Maruthi Nagar was attacked by three persons at his home on Sunday.

While one of the attackers is believed to be his student, the other two had approached the teacher under the guise of a private assignment.

Police said that one Vinay Prasad had approached the Harikatha teacher to perform Harikatha in his village and had paid an advance of Rs 7,000 a few days back.

Meanwhile, on Monday morning, Vinay Kumar along with Ravi Teja, a student of SV Music and Dance college and another person knocked on Sastry’s door and tried to kill him.

The teacher tried to resist and raised an alarm. Even though neighbours came to his rescue, the teacher was stabbed in the abdomen and was injured seriously. A finger of his right hand was also cut off in the attack. Fearing capture, the attackers fled.

The injured teacher was shifted to a government hospital and later to SVIMS. According to SVIMS sources the teacher is now out of danger and is recovering.

The police has registered a case and has launched a hunt for the attackers. SI Imran Khan said Ravi Teja was taken into custody, and that they are probing the reasons behind the attack.

Bangalore: Forty eight hours after a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified miscreant on her way home from school in Electronic City police limits, over 50 city policemen, including two assistant commissioners of police and several inspectors, have formed seven teams to find the suspect.

“The girl is under anaes­thesia as she is going through a lot of pain. We have not been able to question her fully or record her stateme­nts, but we should be able to do so in a day or two.

Once she talks to us, we will have strong leads in the case,” said a senior investigating officer.

The officer said that no one has been taken into custody. “We are questioning all anti-social elements in the area to gather more information. A detailed inquiry is on.”

Meanwhile, the girl’s physical condition is said to be improving, but she is reportedly traumatised.

When asked about her condition, chief of medical services, St John’s Medical College and Hospital, Dr George D’Souza, said, “The girl is doing fine physically. She is being treated accordingly and has been admitted in the general ward. However, the incident has traumatised her and she will require time to recover even after she is fit to be discharged. She will require some counselling.”

The victim was returning home from school around 4.30 pm on Saturday when she was allegedly followed by an unidentified miscreant who covered her mouth with his hand, dragged her into a building under construction, and raped her.

The suspect then allegedly tied a cloth around the girl’s eyes, left her on the Begur main road around 6.30 pm and fled from the spot.

The girl is said to have made her way home in a state of shock. Her parents, who saw the condition she was in, noticed her bleeding from her private parts and rushed her to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been raped.

Bangalore: A rowdy, wanted in a kidnap and murder case of a 21- year-old youth, fractured his leg while trying to escape from the police by jumping from a building near Bidadi.

The JP Nagar police had gone to arrest the rowdy, Santosh, when he jum­ped from the building and fractured his leg.

He is being treated at a hospital on Bann­ergh­atta Road. Santosh was wanted for the kidnap and murder of Chetan Kumar in JP Nagar.

The police are on the look out for Madhu and Shiva, the other accused in the kidnap and murder.

Chennai: A 50-year-old man, a hotel employee was hacked to death with a crow bar at Thirunindravur near Avadi on Sunday night. The deceased, Kasi resided at Kanagal street with his wife Anuradha and six children.

On Sunday night, Kasi hadn’t returned home late into the night and one of his sons had gone around looking for his father, only to find him lying in a pool of blood near a lake, police said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and moved the body to Kilpauk Medical College hospital for post mortem.

Initially, police suspected a feud with his house owner, with whom he had several fights over vacating the house to be behind the murder.

However, further investigations revealed that, the old man was hacked to death, following an altercation with two youths, Saravanan and Sathya who were drinking near the lake area on Saturday night and creating nuisance there.

Kasi had warned them and when on Sunday night, he saw them again, he had abused them, which led the two to hit him with a crow bar and murdered him. On Monday, the police picked up Saravanan and Sathya.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

18-month-old girl hit by drunk biker dies in hospital

Chennai: A day after being hit by a drunken motorcyclist, an 18-month-old girl died at a government hospital in the city on Sunday evening.

The baby, identified as K. Rajashri, was in her mother Abhirami’s arms, when a rash biker hit her and she fell at S.R.P. Koil street in Peravallur, on Saturday around 11 pm.

Investigations revealed that the two-wheelr rider, Karthik, 33, a resident of Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar, was drunk when he rammed into Abirami, who was standing on the road waiting for her husband Kalidas to fetch his bike.

The woman had just returned after attending a wedding reception there, the police said.

All the three suffered injuries in the incident and were admitted to the government Stanley hospital.

Rajashri, who suffered a head injury and was in a critical condition, died on Sunday night, said a police officer.

The girl’s mother, Abirami, is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The Thirumangalam traffic investigation wing have registered a case and booked Karthik on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and drunken driving.

Chennai: Right from swallowing gold as tablets to hiding it in the battery cell compartment of a torchlight, six passengers tried to smuggle in gold into India in various ways on Sunday and Monday.

Customs sleuths totally seized 2.1 kg gold worth Rs 63 lakh from six Sri Lankan natives at Chennai airport.

Airport sources said two passengers reached the city in an Air India flight from Singapore, while the others came from Colombo in a Sri Lankan Airlines flight.

According to sources, customs officials stopped Hyatt Ali (29) on suspicion and did not find anything incriminating in his baggage.

But, on interrogation, they came to know that he had swallowed 200 grams of gold in tablet form.

Each tablet weighed 20 grams. “Using X-ray, the officials confirmed the presence of gold in his intestine and retrieved it naturally,” said an airport source.

Similarly, the officials seized 300 grams of gold hidden by Sasidharan (38) in his rectum.

The officials also seized 400 grams of gold hidden in 34-year-old Hyethrush’s torchlight, while also finding 500 grams gold concealed in a mixer by Mohammed Kasim (30).

Another 600 grams of gold painted in black colour was seized by the customs from Mohammed (40) and Hamid (27), who smuggled them in their suitcases.

“We have seized the gold, but since each passenger carried only less than Rs 20 lakh worth gold, they were let off with a fine,” the customs officials said.

Chennai: Pakistan-printed Indian fake currencies continue to flow into Tamil Nadu via Bangladesh. “What we catch here may only be the tip of the iceberg.

There is every chance huge quantity of fake notes are being pumped into and circulated in Tamil Nadu as well,” an official familiar with counterfeit currency operations told this newspaper.

During the last five days, Chennai police arrested six persons from two areas for trying to circulate fake Indian notes and seized counterfeit with face value of over Rs 3 lakh. All the arrested were from Assam.

Pakistan has been pumping in fake Indian currency to India for years now with a view to destabilise the country’s economy.

The fake notes travel to Bangladesh via Nepal from Pakistan and then get into India through the porous border.

Initial offer for those who take up the job of circulating the fake notes will be usually 75 per cent.

Four arrested by police for murder of boxer

Chennai: The police have arrested four persons for the murder of a 24-year-old boxer, who was hacked to death near his residence in Madhavaram on Saturday.

Four other suspects are at large, the Madhavaram police said. The deceased, P. Damodaran, was found in a pool of blood at his residence.

Investigations revealed that the main accused, Deva, along with his friends, had conspired to murder him after he was unhappy with Damodaran helping Dinesh alias Appu, who is now in jail for assaulting Deva.

Dinesh is also a boxer and based on this friendship, Damod­ar­an had helped Dinesh for bail procedures and other expenses.

This had irked Deva, who along with his friends went to his home and confronted and killed him. The arrested persons were identified as Arun, Kamal and Kumar.

“We have been searching for the absconding persons, Satish, Kathir, Logesh and Kutty,” Madhavaram inspector K. Krishnamoorthy said.
