“I have been writing in Tamil for more than 35 years, and I want to continue,” says, director Thangar Bachan, who is all set to release his book, titled Thangar Bachan Kathaigal on January 7 (today). “This book has a collection of some of my best stories, written since 1983. It should leave a lasting impression on readers. Most of my films are based on what I write. I worry though that in the process of making parallel cinema, a film that is between art and commercial, I sometimes fail. Now on, I don’t want to mix commercial elements in my films.”
After filmmaker Satyajit Ray, Thangar Bachan is believed to be the only serious literature writer, producer, director and actor. Director Mahendran, Balu Mahendra, Vetri Maaran, writer Gnani, Manisha Puthiran, Thamizh Magan and Dr. Abhilasha have been invited to felicitate the writer at the event. Azhagaiya Periyavan’s Uyirmai Publications is publishing this book, the others having been self-published. Now, Thangar Bachan is also busy with his next film with Prabhu Deva and Bhumika Chawla, titled Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal, and it will be releasing in a month.
