Digvijay Singh to Siddaramiah: Deliver on promises made to SC/STs
Bangalore: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to constitute a cabinet sub-committee to monitor the implementation of programmes meant for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Singh also asked the state government to respond to problems and issues concerning the urban middle class.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior Congress leader said, “Singh did not mince words when he wanted the Chief Minister to deliver on assurances he had made to party president Sonia Gandhi. He suggested that urban voters play a crucial role in deciding the party’s prospects.
Citing the outcome of general elections held in 2009, Singh said the party largely benefited from the support of urban voters, who were impressed by the performance of UPA-I and the fact that it could strike the civilian nuclear deal even after the Left parties threatened to quit the coalition.
Being the Chief Minister, you must fix accountability and do not hesitate to take action against erring ministers. Do not get carried away by what ministers say but think twice before announcing any schemes. Even issues like CET will have a bearing on elections, so fix accountability and take action.”
Meanwhile, the party is likely to appoint senior leaders like former KPCC presidents, and former ministers who will not contest the next general elections as in-charge functionaries in all districts.
They will work in tandem with district in-charge ministers to sort out party issues. These leaders would file a monthly report about their plans as well as an action taken report (ATR) to ensure smooth functioning of the party cadre at grassroots’ level.
