Hyderabad schools cautious as fever cases rises among students

Hyderabad: In the wake of rising dengue and viral fevers in twin cities, the government and private schools in Hyderabad went into a cautionary mode asking the parents of the students to exercise additional care of their children if anyone develops high fever coupled with cold and cough.

Attendance in several schools dipped by 20 per cent due to increasing fever cases among students. The principals are requesting the parents not to send their children to the school if the child is suffering from fever. The school management already sent emails and SMSes to the parents in this regard and asked them to maintain utmost care of their child.

A couple of days ago, a reputed school in Secunderabad sent an email to all the parents highlighting the importance of the child’s health in view of rise in fever cases in the city “As part of our unwavering commitment to the health and safety of our students, we urge you to take immediate action if your child exhibits any of the symptoms of illness. Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated,” the management said.

It further stated, “By keeping your child at home when they are unwell, you are playing a vital role in safeguarding the health of other students. Let’s work together to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all. Thank you for your understanding and vigilance.”

It also forwarded three separate slides highlighting precautionary measures to be taken on viral infection, dengue and chikungunya fevers and a disease related to hand, foot and mouth.

Hyderabad District Education Officer (DEO) R Rohini told Deccan Chronicle on Friday that the principals in government schools were taking necessary precautionary measures for the safety of the students. “We are mainly focusing on clearing rain water at the stagnation points on the school premises to control mosquito menace. In view of the rising fever cases among students, the attendance in government schools registered a dip of over 20 per cent in the last 10 days,” she added.
