Cricket unites, like little else, in our country. It brings people across the divides of age, beliefs, demographics, and even, political preferences, together, in celebration of sporting spirit and glory.
Samir A Nerurkar, Founder Samira Habitats, backed Gram Panchayat: Gunjis- Boris (Alibag) in a gesture to honour one of the most glorious chapters in cricketing history; the Champions of Champions trophy victory, directed by their own "Alibagkar'' -Ravi Shastri. Samira Habitats was helpful in bringing together leaders of many political ideologies to commemorate this milestone for their very own Alibagkar Ravi Shastri.
This was the 37th anniversary of Ravi Shastri being awarded Champion of Champions at the competition. The copper and steel installation art was created near Alibag's freshly beautified Kankeshwar Junction to commemorate Ravi Shashtri's spin bowling and all-rounder cricketing fame.
Hon. Minister of Urban Development & Public Works, Mr. Eknath Shinde, Hon. Minister of State, Ms. Aditi Tatkare, Ex Minister of State, Mrs. Meenakshi Tai Patil, and the man of the moment, proud Alibagkar, Ravi Shastri, inaugurated the gargantuan installation.
Mr. Mahendra Dalvi, MLA Alibag, Mr. Subhash Patil Ex MLA, Mr. Aswad & Chitra Patil, Kiran Patil IAS, Addl Sup. Of Police Mr. Atul Zende, and other govt & local officials attended the event, which was welcomed with traditional dhol, taasha, lezim dancers, and splendid traditional gaiety.
"Ravi is one of the first Mumbai dwellers to make Alibag his first address," said Samir Nerurkar, Founder of the Samira Group. He has accepted it as his home, and he considers himself a proud Alibagkar."
"Coming home to Alibag, after the kind of stress we live under as sportsmen, representing the nation, always in public, rejuvenates me," Ravi Shastri remarked. Alibag's tranquility and solace enable me to go out and give it my all. And I hope to see even great sporting brilliance emerge from our incredible Alibag."
