HYDERABAD: With around 2,000 teacher couples employed by government schools seeking transfers under the spouse quota, the Spouse Forum set up by the teachers issued a booklet on the issue, chronologically listing their requests for transfers and rejection of the same.
The state government has not yet taken any decision to unite wife and husband employees on spouse quota in transfers.
Highlighting their woes to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and others concerned, they said that the GO 315, as per which transfers were done, adversely affected the teaching community.
The demand for transfers is especially high in Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Siddipet, Medak, Mahbubnagar and Sangareddy districts. However, there are few vacancies in district headquarters due to which the government is yet to take a decision despite high demand and agitations.
In an earlier practice, under a preferential quota, women employees were transferred to the place where their husband was working. The problem is only acute in 13 of 33 districts as vacancies are low, sources said.
PRTU (Progressive Recognised Teachers' Union) state president Pingali Sripal Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that they have urged the state to fill up at least 50 vacancies in undivided districts, where demand for spouse transfers is high.
“Due to education of children and health grounds, most teachers preferred to stay in old district headquarters. We are hopeful that the education department will settle the spouse cases issue soon,” he said.
