Nizam College splits hostel seats, protests continue
HYDERABAD: Undergraduate students of Nizam College continued their protest on Saturday, demanding that they be allotted all the rooms in the new hostel.
Following earlier protests for over a week by girl undergraduate students of the college demanding hostel facilities, Osmania University had allotted 50 per cent of the rooms to UG students and the other half to PG students.
UG students have been protesting for a week on the grounds that the college was providing accommodation to only PG students.
Osmania University’s notice allotting half the rooms each to UG and PG students, issued on Saturday, stated that in view of increasing enrolment of girl students in PG courses and insufficient accommodation facilities on the campus, the varsity had decided to allot accommodation in the newly constructed hostel to only PG students.
The notice stated that as per the instructions of Education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, the university considered the UG students’ request and decided to allot them 50 per cent of seats.
