IITH’s national ranking rises to 14, Osmania University 22
HYDERABAD: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has improved its overall National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) from 16th in 2021 to 14th in 2022, according to the seventh edition of the National Institutional Rankings released by the Union ministry of education on Friday.
The IITH has maintained its position within the Top 10 ranks among the technical institutes in the country and as the best among the second-generation IITs for the seventh consecutive year. Osmania University has been ranked 22nd in the universities category and 46th in the overall category. OU retained its position as the best state university in Telangana.
IITH has improved its ranking in NIRF over the last seven years, from being ranked 30 to being among the top 15. IITH has also gained three points in research and professional practices and perception and a few points’ improvement in other parameters.
This year, IITH also entered the QS world university rankings by 10 pts and was ranked seven in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021. On the research and innovation front, IITH has outperformed the first gen IIT in both NIRF– 2022 and ARIIA–2021.
Expressing his delight on this attainment, Prof B. S. Murty, director, IIT Hyderabad, said, “This achievement is merely due to the sheer hard work of students, staff, faculty members and the vision of the torchbearers of this institute and, more importantly, our alumni. New and interdisciplinary academic programmes are the need of the hour and in line with the NEP-2020.”
“This is a good sign that OU has been ranked amongst the top universities in India. This ranking is an improvement over the last year, and will boost the image and perception amongst the stakeholders,” remarked Prof D. Ravinder, vice-chancellor of the university. He congratulated the entire faculty, research scholars, students and other stakeholders for this achievement. Similarly, the University College of Engineering too has performed well in the Engineering Colleges category. It has been ranked 117.
