I choose the best film that comes my way: Ashwin Kakumanu
Mankatha fame Ashwin Kakumanu, is busy with his next film titled Thollaikatchi directed by Sadiq Khan, who had earlier assisted directors AR Murugadoss and Lingusamy. “I play the role of a ‘wannabe’ actor. It’s a flashy and attention-seeking character. The film is a village-based romantic comedy and has a social message for the audience. The screenplay is quite satirical in places and has Janani Iyer as the leading lady,” says Ashwin and tells us how post Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara and Nadunisi Naaigal, his career graph has risen considerably.
“Those films gave me confidence to do challenging projects. I am listening to a couple of other scripts as well. I have Zero lined up for release in which I play a social worker. Sshivada is the heroine in this supernatural thriller,” he smiles. The actor, who’s quite choosy about his films, wants to do a gangster film sometime.
“I want to do different kinds of roles, and I don’t care for the length of my role in the film as long as I know it will be appreciated. I choose the best film that comes my way — I don’t consider the heroism factor when I choose scripts. A film’s characters are more important than the actors, any day. For any film, its characters have to be strong. I am also looking forward to doing some serious action-based films with grey shades in the future,” he concludes.
