Holy cow on the wall
Artist and poster designer of films Mohammed Sajeesh was entrusted with designing the ad posters of M.D. Sukumaran’s film Pasu and he designed 20 posters based on the theme of the cow. While doing all this, Sajeesh’s mind was cast back to his childhood days when his family had a cow at home, which was looked after by his grandparents. He recalled the time he was asked by his school teacher to name the five benefits of rearing a cow, the answer to which he sought from his grandfather. He recollected his grandfather roaring with laughter and asking how he could limit the benefits to just five when there were more than that. As Sajeesh ruminated all this, he also thought of the attacks and lynchings happening in the country in the name of the cow and there sprung into his head an idea. He discussed with director Sukumaran and decided to set up an exhibition of the twenty posters done in digital art format. He says, “The message I wanted to emphasise is that the cow is a symbol of non-violence, though so much violence happens in its name.
The cow is an indispensable part of our life and an animal very useful to us.” The posters had been displayed at a prominent gallery in the city and attracted quite a crowd.
