Ayussinte Pusthakam is still readers' favourite: C V Balakrishnan

Novelist C.V. Balakrishnan recalls 50 years of his writing career.

Kottayam: Novelist C.V. Balakrishnan has recalled the great stress and strain he has undergone in being a writer during the last 50 years. The book Ayussinte Pusthakam was written with much effort, he said and added that the reading public had been continuing to enjoy the book that was published in 2004. He was speaking at the 50th anniversary celebrations of his literary career at the public library hall here on Saturday.

"It was while the likes of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai were ruling the literary scene that I ventured into writing," Mr Balakrishnan said. "I struggled hard to publish the novel Ayussinte Pusthakam. Finally, it was DC Kizhakkemury who brought out the novel,” he said. The writers of his period faced immense challenges. Nowadays, a literary work is discussed on the social media, he said. He nurtured a strong bond with Kottayam. “I have written some of my best books sitting here,” he said.

Mr Oommen Chandy MLA inaugurated the programme. The dramatic version of 'Ayussinte Pusthakam' directed by journalist P.C. Hareesh was staged after the function.
