Veteran lensman Bhaskar Rao chronicles Visakhapatnam's transformation

Visakhapatnam: The rare collection of photos clicked by the hawk-eyed veteran lensman K. Bhaskar Rao, in his 50-years journey, has brought an opportunity for Vizag to peek into the past and sense the evolution of the city.

A two-day exhibition displaying the picture collection of Vizag region was inaugurated by the Andhra University Vice-chancellor G. Nageswara Rao at Visakha Museum here on Saturday. The changing face of Visakhapatnam’s cityscape, its landmark moments and some rare captures of heritage structures and buildings- many of which have faded away in the chapters of history have been showcased in the exhibition.

Seventy-year-old Bhaskara Rao, a native of Bheemunipatnam, had served the Indian Air Force as a photographer and after retiring from the services, he started his career as a freelance photographer in the city. One of Rao’s picture, taken in 1960, of the Round Building of Bheemunipatnam reflects the story of one of its popular heritage structures.
