Drawing from the elements of nature, Anuradha Kabra, an artist from Singapore, has tried to explore the moments that define and shape life in her ongoing exhibition titled Ikshana at the Kalakriti Art Gallery. “Some of my works are based on the age-old Chinese belief about the dragon and the Phoenix. The dragon is the emblem of ‘Yang’, the masculine form of energy, and the Phoenix is ‘Yin’, the feminine energy. Through my mixed media works, I showcase the beautiful balance between the two forces, that leads to a state of equilibrium and also the imbalance that leads to instability,” says the artist.
Anuradha tries to capture the contradictory experiences of life — like good and bad, happiness and melancholy. “Every experience must be embraced with a neutral, balanced and quiet state of mind,” she says.

For this series, she has worked with intricate lines and a vibrant colour palette, balanced by the inclusion of plenty of muted tints and smoky greys. Her compositions contain a lot of ornamentally designed flora and fauna. She says, “I am very fond of animals and so I love to paint them. As an artist, I am greatly inspired by the works of two greats — Vincent Van Gogh and M.C. Escher.”
Anuradha belongs to a family of artists; her father was a well-known musician and her mother is an artist who works with broken glass chips. “My parents’ involvement and dedication for fine arts inspired me tremendously to pursue painting seriously,” she concludes.
