The under-25 over reachers
The city is all set for days of madness filled with performances, artwork, food, master classes, flea markets, workshops and so much more! The Under 25 summit which is on till January 8, is the largest youth festival to have taken place in the country and boasts of having speakers like Tanmay Bhat, Kenny Sebastian and Reshma Qureshi — all under one roof.
The summit vows to break myths about live events by encouraging the audience to interact with some of the biggest influencers in the country, and meet like-minded people simultaneously.
The idea of the summit was to create a sense of alternative education, according to Shreyans Jain, the founder of the Under 25 club. “I knew that college was a waste of time — I learnt everything I did outside of college through experiences and understood that this is how the youth of today functions. We want to lean through experiences rather than by sitting in classrooms,” says Shreyans who co-founded the club with Anto Philip — his batchmate from Christ College.
“We wanted to capture the attention of the youth and make them feel like they are a part of something bigger. So the summit came to be and it’s all about educating people in the right way, as opposed to the boring way we have been exposed to in schools and colleges. We are trying to make learning fun and enjoyable. That’s the reason we have speakers from such diverse fields — the interest of the youth today is so expansive and we want to make it as interesting for them,” says Anto Philip.
But the event is not necessarily only for people under 25, clarifies Naser Al Azzeh, an artiste from the city who will be performing at the summit. “I’m 26 and the first question I had was — why approach me when I’m not under 25,” says the hip-hop dancer from the city.
“Then I reaslised, that it’s about the emotion. Not the age. I was informed that a man over 60 years is also going to be a part of the event and that’s when I fell in love with the idea. I understood that the summit is more of an artiste gathering where we get to meet like-minded people and share similar ideas and experiences which will hopefully be a part of something bigger some day,” says the 26-year-old excitedly.
The four day summit promises to create a platform for everybody from budding entrepreneurs, techies, foodies, fashionistas, artistes and everybody in between, to have a good time. “It’s the perfect place to interact and meet people with similar interests in hope of creating something new. The panel is also brilliant – who doesn’t want to know about Reshma’s story of surviving an acid attack and then getting to walk the ramp at the New York Fashion Week?” says Aswathi Balakrishnan.
