An invaluable gift
While the city gears up to honour Smriti Mandhana a player who proved her mettle during the recently concluded ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup well-known artist from the city, Jaya Baheti, has been busy creating a special painting for the woman cricketer.
“I have been working on it since the last three days. I read about her extensively and noticed that she has a lovely spirit, hope and energy in her eyes. I am trying to show the same spirit through my painting. The painting is a reflection of Smriti and I am showing it in my style,” says Jaya.
Since the cricketer is being welcomed in the city, the artist has also added the Charminar and Hyderabad’s various tombs in abstract form to the painting. “I have added a bat and a ball; the ball is red and looks like the sun, showing how on the field her ball shines like the sun. I have also added a lotus, which you will find in most of my paintings. It shows that we should always be above the murkiness that life brings. I have added a trishula, which denotes her power of fighting everything that comes her way in life,” says Jaya while explaining her work in depth.
“I am sure that Smriti will like the painting since she will see her own reflection in it,” hopes Jaya.
