Roli Books founder Pramod Kapoor gets highest civilian award of France
New Delhi: Roli Books' founder and noted publisher Pramod Kapoor has been conferred with France's highest civilian award 'Knight of the Legion of Honour' for his "lifelong commitment" to producing books that have promoted India's heritage at home and abroad.
The 'Chevalier de la Lgion dHonneur' was conferred upon Kapoor, the founder of Roli Books, by French Ambassador Franois Richier on behalf of President Francois Hollande here last night.
The Legion dHonneur, created in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding service to France, regardless of the nationality of the recipients.
The President of the French Republic is the Grand Master of the Order of the Legion of Honour.
"This honour comes in recognition of Mr Pramod Kapoor's lifelong commitment to producing books that have changed the landscape of Indian publishing and to promoting India's tangible and intangible heritage here and abroad," said a
statement by the French Embassy.
"Under his leadership, Roli Books' association with the French publishing industry has also been remarkable," it said. Kapoor, who was born in 1953 in Calcutta and studied at Benaras Hindu University, in 1978 founded Roli Books, "a name that has become synonymous with lavish, beautifully crafted books on Indian art, photography, history and world cuisines", the statement added.
