An Art Capella at Srishti
Until Geeta Narayanan's Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology became a reality, all roads led to the Baroda art facility. Ms Narayanan founded a school here in the city that not only became a home for local aspiring artists, it drew young people from across the country who wanted to make a career in art and design. Today, over 20 years later, the school's alumni makes it an art capital that rivals London, Paris and New York.
Marking the journey will be 220 student artists at the four day Srishti Collective 2017 that begins this coming Monday.
“The first edition that came together in 2015 was a catalytic one. This year we are focusing more on the variety within the creative spaces ,” says Ms Narayanan.
From art installations, graphic designs, public art projects and visual art among others, the festival will showcase art projects done by their graduate and post graduate students for their final semesters. Open to all, this Collective wants to bring art out of the classroom and closed elite spaces and really make it a part of the public space. “It had always been a campus show, but we wanted to elevate it. We learnt over the years that it was inspiring parents and students to come forward and explore the field of art. We thought why not give that experience to the all!” she exclaims.
“Every one who comes in there with a stereotypical idea of art and design, will be surprised for sure! There will be a lot of insight and a lot to enjoy,” she adds.
