Rhyming with requisites of nature
Azhagappan is basically a lover of nature and his writings depict the same. He has written over 30 books, mostly about the necessity of natural rudiments. His works include short stories, poems and novels as well.
“Creative work is attached to my body and soul, apart from movie making I love to write as it delights me all the time,” says Azhagappan.
He has also directed the 2009 film Vannathu Poochi, which portrays the dual goals of extolling village life and condemning city life. Azhagappan received two Tamil Nadu State awards for this film despite being bashed by the critics.
“Filmmaking is one of my passions, I enjoy doing it. Working with Kamal Haasan was a huge experience on how to create a film with perfection,” relishes Azhagappan.
He has worked as an assistant director with Ulaganayagan from the days of Apoorva Sagodarargal till Virumandi.
Talking about the experience with Kamal, Azhagappan explains, “He taught me how to dedicate myself for the job. Both scripts of Apoorva Sagodarargal and Devar Magan were re-written after shooting for 15 days, Kamal doesn’t compromise for cost and duration. He works hard until the art is shaped well, never quits easily.”
Azhagappan’s Thai Nilam (A book of poems) deals with the pain of losing the mother land. He feels that due to the advancement in technology people have started moving from their native villages to cities. This has resulted in the lack of nature’s importance in everyone’s lives. And this book is a tool to remind them of the past.
“What is the use of inventing electric cars, when you don’t plant trees which make you survive in the earth,” asks Azhagappan. He explains that a single trees’ breeze is equal to twenty air-conditioners. “Planting trees and saving our lands are the most essential things in this modern-era,” concludes Azhagappan.
