Akbar Kakkattil's book to be released on his death anniversary
KOZHIKODE: On the first death anniversary of writer Akbar Kakkattil on Friday, his incomplete works Ini Varilla Postman, an anthology of letters, will be released at Tagore hall by M.T. Vasudevan Nair. The book is compiled and published by DC books. The work is a tribute to the late writer, whose void in the field of literature and his vast circle of friends, is yet to be filled. Ini Varilla Postman (roughly translated as the ‘Postman will not come again’) refers to the snail mail
communication he had with prominent writers, critics and veterans of various fields, who were his contemporaries.
The letters were compiled posthumously. Kakkattil was known for his stories related to the life experiences of the teacher community. Earlier in December, a disciple and close friend of Kakkattil, Rafi Neelankavil, who was partially paralysed after hearing the news of demise, had his book, ‘Ummini Balya Mash’ released at Mr Kakkattil’s house. The book is a collection of his experiences as a teacher. The foreword for the collection of letters was written by noted writer Shihabuddin Poythumkadavu. It was earlier published in parts in Chandrika magazine.
