Sania doesn't know she's a star: Parineeti Chopra
While launching her autobiography Ace Against Odds in Delhi, tennis star Sania Mirza was joined by Bollywood actress and dear friend Parineeti Chopra on stage.
While Sania spoke about the book and her chances at the Rio Olympics on stage, the two also talked about the kind of equation they share as friends, with Parineeti even saying she wouldn’t mind playing Sania if a movie about her life was made!
Parineeti also pointed out that she shares a very close relationship with Sania because the latter’s stardom has not affected her as an individual.
“She doesn’t know she’s a star! I think the best part of our friendship is that we do not see each other in terms of our professional success but as individuals who have a lot in common,” said Parineeti, adding, “Both of us belong to humble homes and opted for professional choices very unconventional for girls. It is hard to establish oneself and then achieve what we have.”
Sania, on her part, shared, “I started playing at the age of six and I am sure nobody in the country would’ve thought that a 16-year-old girl could win Wimbledon. When I decided to take up tennis as my career, it was a difficult choice for everyone in my family but they supported me through thick and thin. Against all odds, we took a step that was in many ways against the norms of society. With many women taking up sports now, an impact is being made on the mindsets of people and the industry as well.”
On the controversy surrounding her marriage with cricketer Shoaib Malik, Sania joked, “As a couple we wanted to be happy but we didn’t know we were making a political statement by falling in love!” Parineeti cheered her on and said that she considers Sania’s love story to be like a sequel to Veer-Zara!
And while Parineeti revealed that she is keen to play Sania if a biopic on her life is made as she feels that she knows the ace player well, she added that there is no likelihood of there ever being another like the tennis star, because Sania has a unique personality and style.
