WARANGAL: “I see what others prefer not to see,” says Anil Kumar Guttu, author of “Manuscript of a Misfit”. Ever since this book has gone on sale over Amazon, he has been receiving accolades from near and far.
A government teacher working in Hanamkonda, the 40-year-old author discusses socio-cultural issues in his debut book. It is a collection of 41 real-life experiences of the author, knitted mainly around themes of society and culture. Stories in the book compel readers to introspect and help them discover realities of life.
“The masked people in society, who project a life far from reality; lack of individuality in masses, and exaggeration of our culture within society forced me to write this psychological nonfiction,” says Anil Kumar.
His narratives, in general, challenge perspectives of society and culture. They question popular beliefs with regard to love, women, marriage, positive-thinking, freedom of speech, morality, education, and parenting.
The author focuses on simplifying his narratives as much as possible to express more in fewer words. In fact, his friends have started calling him “TikTok writer” for his short presentations.
Incidentally, StoryMirror has honoured Anil Kumar as a Literary Captain for his contribution to promotion of literature.
Asked what he wants to convey to society through his book, he says, “Don't get carried away by what others say. Develop critical-thinking skills and create an identity of your own. Shed your inhibitions and embrace the life you love.”
Former registrar of Kakatiya University and professor in English, Dr K. Purushotham, has called the book, “A series of vignettes, which drive readers to notice what normally goes unnoticed in the banditry of life.”
The author hails from Fathima Nagar in Kazipet. He pursued post-graduation in English literature from Kakatiya University and went on to study business management in London. He is currently working as a teacher in a state-run school.
