Travelling through history
Art transcends time, space, and human imagination. Translating this into reality, renowned artist TV Santhosh has attempted to interpret the history of Mumbai’s iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly Victoria Terminus, and what it meant to people back then. His installation, titled Threshold into a Dream, was a work that took over three years to complete, and is a 30-degree tilted wood presentation of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
It was exhibited at the Delhi Art Fair and will be installed in namma Chennai as well! This impressive piece of art has the finest details carved in wood and offers a magnificent vision of Mumbai’s iconic structure. “This work traces the footsteps of a historical monument — an investigation into its history, and the conflicts it can raise. My intention is to look at the implications and strategies of these conflicts,” Santhosh tells DC.
This monument, which has stood the test of time — from the colonial era into the new millennium, witnessing a change in its name, changes in society, and terror attacks. It will offer Chennaiites a glimpse of history.
