Thiruvnaanthapuram: ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ the eighth book in the series, will be released worldwide on July 31, Harry Potter’s birthday, including at Modern Book House here. A play based on the script will open in London’s Palace Theatre on July 30. The book is coming out five years after the ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2’ released in 2011. Priced at 30 dollars, it will be officially released at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday.
The play, based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, creator of Harry Potter, along with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, narrates the tale of Potter 19 years after the conclusion of the original series. According to the author’s Pottermore website, Harry, now a father of three and working at the Ministry of Magic, “grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, while his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.” July 31, according to previous books, will be Harry Potter's 36th birthday, and is also J.K. Rowling's 51st birthday.
