VISAKHAPATNAM: For a change, Visakha range DIG L.K.V. Ranga Rao and Vizianagaram superintendent of police Deepika Patil showcased before public their artistic skills by displaying their artworks at the ongoing painting exhibition at Hawa Mahal on the beach road in Visakhapatnam.
The second day of exhibition drew a modest crowd of art lovers, who also got drawn towards works of DIG Ranga Rao and SP Deepika, apart from paintings put up by upcoming and young artists, who have passed out from Andhra University recently.
Talking about her untitled work depicting two women and a peacock, Deepika Patil said inspired by mythological Krishna and Radha, she had done this painting in 2016 while undergoing training in Prakasam district. “I have had this hobby since childhood. Even now, I draw and paint whenever I find little time,” Deepika told this correspondent on Tuesday.
DIG Ranga Rao, who encouraged Deepika to exhibit her painting, himself displayed two of his works. One is Lotus Flowers in Still Water and the other Stripes in Black and White. “While lotus depicts natural beauty in serene waters, the other is all about life. White stripes depict golden moments of life, and black the darker side,” he explained.
Ranga Rao himself inaugurated the four-day painting exhibition on Monday. He said he is quite impressed with works of young boys and girls.
A huge pencil work “Pensioner” is one of the main attractions at the exhibition. It has been done by Nitisha Gudiwaka, a BFA graduate from Andhra University. Nitisha said her work highlights the plight of old labourers discarded by the society.
Another graduate M.B. Samyukta said her acrylic work “Revival” is about heritage structures in Vizag city, which are in a state of negligence. The picture – Dried Tree with Leaves – symbolises heritage buildings while leaves indicate their hope of revival.
Exhibition curator Kattakuri Ravi said the art scene in Visakhapatnam is in its nascent stage yet. The exhibition has been organised to acquaint people of Vizag with art and sensibilities behind it. He pointed out that this edition of exhibition has 90 pieces of paintings, sculptures, graphics and photography works of art students and upcoming artists.
