Mélange of colours and meanings
Art is a door that enables us to see something beyond — things that may be hidden to us at times. That’s the power of art. This month has been a celebration of art for the people of Kochi. Connoisseurs have been pouring in from all over the world to be part of this festival of art called Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
When Kochi is all excited with biennale, a group of 100 artists from Kerala have come together to display their works at Indriyam Art Gallery in Mattancherry. The art exhibition titled 10X10X10, conceptualised by O. Sunder, showcases a series of 10 shows with 10 artists for 10 days. The exhibition, which kicked off on December 10, has completed its first show and the second one will be on display till today. The third installment will begin on January 1.
The works that would be on display show the viewpoints of 100 different artists. Each artist has been chosen on the basis of their works and experiences.
And all have been brought together under one roof to celebrate such diverse works. “There wasn’t a particular theme given to the artists; we wanted to display their own unique works,” says Sreekanth Nettoor, co-owner of the gallery. The mediums used for the paintings are acrylic, pencil and charcoal.
The works mostly cover the perceptions and ideas of the artists themselves; they deal with the artists’ life experiences, situations and differing lifestyles. “Each work shows the individuality of a particular artist,” he adds.
The third show will display the works of Bindhi Rajagopal, Sreeja Pallam, Jayasree P.G., Santhakumari E.N., Meera Krishna, Jagadeesh Narayanan, K.S. Dilipkumar, Sreelal K.S., and Sijo K. Sam.
“Many people have been visiting the exhibition, especially a number of foreign artists,” Sreekanth says, when asked about the public response.
The exhibition will go on till March 28 from 10 am to 6 pm.
