This summer is a colourful one at the Chaitram Institute of Fine Arts, Palluruthy, where the 16th summer vacation exhibition is being held. The event that is on till May 31 was inaugurated by cine artist Sudhi Koppa and writer Jerly.
The artistic brilliance of young painters in the age group of 6-18 is on display at the exhibition. Their instructor V.B. Venu played a key role in honing their skills and helped them put their best works forward. The eye-catching array of works is neatly arranged with black and white drawings displayed on one side and colourful ones kept on the other. The aim of the exhibition is to encourage the skills of students who join the institute during summer vacation and bring their talents to the fore.
On the name Chaitram, Venu says, “Every colour starts from white and ends with black. The life of a painting remains within these colours and so we adopted this title for this exhibition.”
The institution was set up in 1986 to nurture the skills of budding artists and was inaugurated by renowned illustrator Vasudevan Namboothiri. In the early stages, there were only about 40 students but now more than 150 students are part of the classes. Throughout the years, thousands of students have acquired basic knowledge in painting from the institute and many have even taken up painting as a profession.
Over the years, Chaitram has also conducted more than 27 exhibitions to promote students. For the past 14 years, it has not only organised such exhibitions but also held demonstrations in various mediums by famous artists.
