Hyderabad: The 35th National Book Fair has been witnessing an overwhelming response from the people. It has had a footfall of over 10 lakh people since its commencement on December 22. Book lovers rushed to the fair on New Year eve to grab their favourite books. It will conclude on Sunday.
The popular fair, organised by Hyderabad Book Fair Society, in association with Telugu Sahitya Akademi and the state government, had books published in around ten states, which were spread over 340 stalls.
Vice-president of the society, K. Chandramohan, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said “This has been a phenomenal year compared to the earlier two years. The average daily turnout of visitors was around 70,000. We expect one lakh crowd on Sunday. Even sales have been good. There has been tremendous response and appreciation for the insightful discussions on literature from different languages, including Telugu, Urdu and English, which were organized”.
This year’s edition also saw the release of books by both new and established authors.
‘Telangana Charitha Thovvallo’ (Treasure Book of our past history) was released by Deccan Heritage Academy on Saturday. It is a compilation of the writings of Sriramoju Haragopal on archeology, heritage, and inscriptions across the Deccan Plateau.
Other launches included ‘Odaginna Kalam’ by Nori Dattatraya and ‘Koncham Neeru Koncham Nepu’ by Aranya Krishna, among several other books in English and Urdu.
The visitors included children, youth and senior citizens.
