Vizag district geared to face Cyclone Michaung
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam collector Dr. A Mallikarjuna held an emergency meeting with district officials following reports of Cyclone Michaung hitting the coastal areas with heavy rains and gale force winds.
Those who participated in the meeting included GVMC commissioner C.M. Saikanth Varma, top officials of revenue, agriculture, water supply, panchayat raj, roads and buildings, medical and health, and information departments, mandal tehsildars and MPDOs.
The collector asked the entire district machinery to be ready to face heavy to very heavy rains forecast for Monday and Tuesday. Warning has been issued to fishermen not to venture into the sea. All leaves have been cancelled.
District officials have identified 25 cyclone protection centres in urban areas and 20 in rural areas. About 50,000 people from coastal areas can be accommodated in these centres.
Zonal commissioners of GVMC have been directed to make arrangements for supplying food, water, blankets, medical kits and electricity supply to the cyclone centres.
Likewise, Manyam district is also getting ready to face the cyclone. Collector Nishanth Kumar held a meeting with officials on Saturday.

Manyam district administration has made arrangements for moving people to rehabilitation centres as per need.
Collector Nishanth said keeping in mind children, old people, pregnant women and infants, milk, biscuits, bread and other necessary materials should be kept ready.
