VMC to organise awareness programmes on clean air and blue skies

VMC Commissioner Swapnil said that Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was organising various awareness programmes on clean air and blue skies

Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar said that following instruction from Andhra Pradesh municipal administration & urban development department, the VMC would observe the ‘4th International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies’, aiming for clean air and blue skies to create public awareness and how to improve air pollution on September 5 and September 7. He said that Vijayawada Municipal Corporation was organising various awareness programmes on clean air and blue skies.

The VMC Commissioner stated that in this regard, drawing competitions, science fair and experiments, creative competitions with children from all schools in Vijayawada city would be held on September 5 at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, and a cyclothon - walkathon would be held on September 7 from Eat Street to Benz Circle to encourage the use of eco-friendly modes of transportation and to promote a healthy lifestyle. He said that the programmes would be carried out on foot and on bicycles while conveying the message through a walkathon.

He said, “Clean air is a fundamental right and it is our collective responsibility to protect it. Through this programme, we hope to inspire our society to take meaningful steps for clean and healthy air, and everyone should participate in this great initiative. VMC is urging all the people of Vijayawada and surrounding areas to participate and make it successful.”
