Climate change affecting summertime thunderstorms

Summertime thunderstorms 'robustly connected' to climate change.

USA: Scientists at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) attributed the cause of summertime thunderstorms to the massive climate change, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The scientists from MIT calculated the energy change level that triggers climate change across the globe by using data from 1979 to 2017. Electrical energy has risen by 13 per cent that causes stormy weather. According to the scientists, the redistribution is causing massive weather changes which include longer heat-wave spells, increased pollen count and urban smog.

The amount of energy for the extra-tropical cyclones has decreased by 6 percent. Paul O’ Gorman, an author of the study said, “We can see how this energy goes up and down over the years, and we can also separate how much energy is available for convection, which would manifest itself as thunderstorms for example, versus larger-scale circulations like extratropical cyclones.”

He further shares that they would want to find out what is happening to the energy available in the atmosphere, and observe how the trends are going up in North America in comparison to the Asian region and coastal regions.
