Met Gala 2023 was all about glitz, elegance, opulence, and stunning fashion
For the Costume Institute’s annual fashion party, the Met Gala 2023 honoured late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The biggest night in fashion took place on May 1. It is an early spring charity ball held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art that is unquestionably one of the most memorable nights of the year in the world of fashion.
To honour the designer, the event, known for its star-studded guest list and extravagant outfits, included pearls, starched collars, and black and white.
Karl Lagerfeld, a close confidante of the late fashion maestro and fashion empress Anna Wintour, was the focus of the exhibition. The year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The late designer, who passed away in 2019 will be remembered for his contributions to the world of fashion through the exhibition.
Surreal!
Isha Ambani, daughter of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, looked surreal in a black saree-turned-gown as she paid homage to her Indian roots. Isha literally dazzled as she walked the carpet in Prabal Gurung’s black silk saree gown adorned with thousands of crystals and pearls.
Alia makes a stunning debut
Alia Bhatt made a grand entrance at this year’s New York gala. The actress chose a pristine white gown with a billowing silhouette from Prabal Gurung’s shelves for her debut look. The gown is embellished with pearls throughout, and she only wore one glove; pearls and gloves were two of Karl Lagerfeld’s signature elements.
The actress’ hair was perfectly styled, and she completed her look with statement earrings and minimal make-up.
‘Seriously Brilliant’
The diva, who has a strong fashion sense and attends the Met Gala on a regular basis, added drama and edge to fashion’s biggest night in a sculpted mirror gown with sharp shoulder spikes. Natasha Poonawalla took to Instagram to show off her Schiaparelli ensemble.
He came as a giant cat, left as Jared Leto
The Met Gala 2023, dedicated to the late fashionista and designer Karl Lagerfeld, was a star-studded event, but fans were hoping to see his beloved cat Choupette on Tuesday. Hollywood star Jared Leto appeared on the red carpet wearing a giant Choupette costume. Leto’s costume featured a white and fluffy Burmese cat with huge blue eyes. The look was inspired by Lagerfeld and his beloved pet.
Power couple
In keeping with this year’s theme in honour of Karl Lagerfeld, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra looked even more stunning in matching white and black Valentino ensembles. Nick was dressed in a black suit with a black leather blazer over his white shirt and a skinny black tie with a cool tie pin. Priyanka’s strapless black gown had a straight neckline, a ruched waist with a black bow, and a daring slit that reached up to her waist. It was accompanied by a flowing ruffled cape in black, accented with white bows. She finished it off with white gloves. It was completed with black platform heels, earrings, and a diamond choker necklace.

Serena, Kloss flaunt baby bumps...
Serena Williams, the tennis legend, and Karlie Kloss, the supermodel, both revealed their pregnancies on the Met Gala’s not-so-red carpet. Williams, 41, shared photos on Insta with her husband, Alexis Ohanian: “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.” The tennis star walked the carpet in a black Gucci gown with a sparkling, low-cut neckline and a tulle skirt. The look was completed with a cropped blazer, layers of pearl necklaces. Meanwhile, Kloss, 30, wore a Jonathan Anderson-designed black Loewe gown to announce that she is expecting her second child with Joshua Kushner. The model added layers of pearl necklaces and a pearl chain around her hips.
Fashionably late
As the evening’s final guests, the couple — Rihanna and A$AP Rocky — followed Karl Lagerfeld’s dress code. In an oversized fur coat from Fendi’s fall/winter 1997 ready-to-wear collection, the Love on the Brain singer cut an elegant figure. RiRi chose ivory white pumps with feminine touches like wrap-around laces and a pretty rosette attached to the pointed toe. Her accessories, which included large stud diamond earrings and a multi-strand pearl-and-diamond choker necklace by Bulgari, upped the ante even more.
Anna Wintour, Bill Nighy confirm romance
At the Met Gala on Monday night, Anna Wintour confirmed her relationship with Bill Nighy. Following months of dating speculation, the Vogue titan, 73, arrived at the fashion gala arm-in-arm with the Love Actually actor, also 73.
The new couple, both Brits, first made headlines in December when they were spotted together at a New York screening of Nighy’s Oscar-nominated film, Living.
Wintour’s decision to make her romance with Nighy public at the Met Gala has special significance for the magazine mogul, who has chaired or co-chaired the prestigious fashion event since 1995.

A single ticket to the Met Gala 2023 costs $50,000 (approximately '40 lakh), while tables start at $300,000 (approximately Rs. 2.5 crore).
A lot to recycle
As guests entered the Metropolitan Museum’s Great Hall, they passed a towering centerpiece — flanked by an orchestra playing tunes — and then climbed the huge staircase up to the receiving line, with hosts Anna Wintour, Michaela Coel, Penéope Cruz, Dua Lipa and Roger Federer awaiting. Last year, the centerpiece and staircase were carpeted with bright pink roses — 275,000 of them. This time it was recycled water bottles.
