Frumpy gym wear is passe
Welcome to the world of glammed up gym outfits. They are the current rage. Look at filmstars walking out of their gyms after a tough workout session. They are as stylish as they would be when attending a party!
The notion of baggy track pants and shabby T-Shirts being ‘appropriate’ wear for workouts is on its way out. Recently, Bollywood celebrity Malaika Arora was photographed on her way to the gym wearing an off-shoulder outfit.
Malaika Aroroa, Jhanvi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and many others are the trendsetters here. A whole new couture is growing around fitness now. We chat with experts to find out what they think about this new trend of looking glamourous while shedding pounds.
Lifestyle blogger Shrima Rai says, “I believe in ‘enclothed cognition’, which simply means what one wears can have a psychological effect. I like to dress in smart, fashionable gym clothes when I work out, and if I feel beautiful, then why not? It’s a matter of personal choice. If someone loves fashion, they will be very well dressed, no matter where they go.”
Actress and model Rajshri Ponnappa believes that as long your outfit doesn’t hinder your workout regimen, you can wear whatever you want to. She says, “As actresses and models, we are photographed by the paparazzi all the time, and working out is a big part of what we do in a day. For me, if I find something fancy and chic to wear to the gym, I will wear it as long as it is comfortable and doesn’t hinder my exercises.” She echoes Shrima when she says it depends on individual preference. “Nobody has to dress up just because somebody else does so. It’s ones choice.”
Neeti Poonacha who co-owns a gym, is of the view that if a particular outfit makes you feel good, then you should go ahead and wear it. “I have seen clients who come with plain pants and T-Shirts one week, and the next week they show up in a fancy outfit which makes them feel good,” she says. “Rather than looking at the negative side of things, think of it as motivation. If wearing something fancy motivates you to workout harder so that you can fit into your dream dress, then please go ahead and wear it” is her advice. “I have also noticed that a lot of athletes love to show off their hard work (by their choice of clothes). So it doesn’t really matter what you wear as long as it is comfortable,” says Neeti.
When celebs start a trend, the ordinary folks will definitely follow it.
So, go on, pick up that gym outfit with the fancy neckline, or the one that is apt for a glam look. Make a statement with branded gym-wear.
