Style is just a dot away!
Bengaluru has probably not seen anything like this! The audacious fashion shows and party season begins this Thursday at the 15th edition of Wear.Style Bangalore Fashion Week at Sheraton Grand Bangalore at Brigade Gateway.
We bring you a lowdown on what you can expect on the runways as four fresh faces from Bengaluru showcase their latest designs. Here are some of the haute styles to look out for at the BFW from August 4 to 7.
Sameena Parveen: Sameena of Timeless Trousseaus will be showcasing Partaish (meaning a hym for celebrations in Persian). “The collection is an eclectic mix of royal legacy, vibrant traditions and rich cultural heritage of the distinct eras of Mughals. It spells extravagance for the modern bride. I’ve used sensuous drapes and sharp silhouettes; well-balanced with delicate embroidery, intricate patchwork and bold patterns and worked with zardosi, doori, Resham and velvet work in light pastels to bright neons and an array of rich jewel tones. I’ve paired floor length lehengas paired with cholis, crop tops and structured jackets along with feminine gowns and traditional Indian loungers or the Farshi skirts,” shares the designer from Sabah Design Studio who loves to read and travel when she’s not working.
Govind Kumar Singh: Govind’s label Rainush is out with another rousing trendy collection Paani-Grahan. Talking of his collection, the NIFT design graduate states, “Paani-Grahan is the Vedic tradition that symbolises the unification for the start of a new life together for a bride and her groom, before the purifying fire. Inspired from Sita swayamvara, it is made in tune with our tradition and culture and focuses on ethnic pieces with a contemporary twist to it. I’ve used festive tones in reds, orange, browns, beige and gold for breathable fabrics like georgette, chiffon, organza, satin, brocades and Italian net.” The designer who likes to do his bit for charity, adds, “I love to spend my free time with underprivileged children. I did a project for empowerment of rural women of Assam and Meghalaya with the government. I teach design to those who are interested in pursuing a designing career on weekends.”
Kavya & Pooja: These two young girls call their fashion label Sacaru (meaning very beautiful). “Our collection for BFW is called “The Language of Flowers”. During the late 19th century, a language arose through flowers. People used to exchange coded messages through them. Each kind of flower had a specific meaning to convey. Our Winter/Festive collection comprises three different floral prints in peaches, greens and browns, ending with dark and frosted blues,” says Kavya Bagamane, a fashion design graduate from Raffles, Singapore. Pooja Prasad Raghavendra who has studied design from the Ohio University adds, “The styles range from semi-formal to formal couture pieces, with a mix of Western silhouettes and Indian sensibilities in fabrics like organza, silk crepes, chiffons and tulle, with hand crafted embroideries and surface ornamentation.”
Pooja Bagaria: Designer Pooja Bagaria Jhunjhunwala will be showcasing her collection called Into the Woods. The collection demonstrates the beauty of being free. “Bird cages and birds have been used with dramatic 3D embellishments expressing the outburst of emotions. The use of pastel colours depicts the purity within one’s soul. I’ve played with hues of powder pinks, pastel orange, sky blues, mauve and hints of tomato red and magenta pinks on easy free-flowing jumpsuits, breathtaking gowns and sari dresses,” reveals Pooja. When she’s not at her design desk, she adds, “I love to dabble with art, craft and dance. I’m a huge travel junkie and have tried sky diving, bungee jumping, canyoning, scuba diving and other adrenaline pumping activities.”
