Every year, a trend unleashes and when worn right by a celeb takes off the road for everyone else to explore. This year started with the Banarasi saree trend which was seen worn by many famous celebs like Deepika during an event but the trend just did not stay with sarees but made its shift to many other unique styles that it could be worn.
Speaking to the designers and bloggers on what’s their take on the trend and how they would style it up!
Jhalak Bhatia, a contemporary fusion designer says, “The fabric that was befitting for royalty-the fabric that was touted as one of the finest weaves from India, to trade for its exquisite looks- The Banarasi is indeed the most haloed of Indian sarees. Retouching the roots, Banarasi has gained a lot of popularity since the past couple of years attributing to the beauty it beholds and our “Padmavati” adorning the fabric. For your trousseau collection or otherwise, if a girl has enough Banarasis in her closet she will definitely lead like a ‘Rajrani”! I would love to combine a banarasi sari with a long jacket zari blouse to compliment the elegance and grace.”
Another young enthusiastic fashion designer, Revika Poddar thinks that “We, by default associate banarasi fabric for Indian silhouettes. However, I feel that it could be used in a lot more chicer ways. A beautiful banarasi skirt paired with a loose fit white t-shirt and contemporary jewellery is going to definitely make heads turn.”
But, skirts and sarees are not only where the fabric stops as a blogger, Nikita Sharma tells us that it can also be used to design a blouse that you could pair with any western pants as well, giving it a fusion look. “We as fashion bloggers love to experiment with looks and designs and what’s always worked best for us is the Indian fabric turned into a blouse and then pairing it up with jeans or bell-bottoms with some high heels. This fusion-style never runs out of fashion!”
