From the tender age of nine, she was involved in a lot of social activities — especially empowering other young girls. Kaamaakshee actively participated in several awareness campaigns and rallies supporting various causes, predominantly on a project, ‘Girl Power’. Also, a model for various advertisements, the 12-year-old student of Chettinad Vidhyashram has been crowned Little Miss World 2017 (gold pre-teen) held in Thessaloniki, Greece in September. In a chat with DC, the young prodigy opens up about her interests and future plans.
“I was always interested in modelling and was lured towards the fashion industry when I was five! I have done a couple of modelling assignments every now and then. When they called for an audition, for the contest, I decided to give it a try and became Little Miss India and got the chance to represent our country,” says Kaamaakshee.
The young girl, who believes in girl power, wants to follow her passion. “My aim is to become an entertainment lawyer and a model when I grow up. I believe in flying high and yet staying rooted. I want to become a top model just to prove a point that this industry is safe for girls. Every girl’s voice can change this world. We girls just need to believe in ourselves and dream big. And I am sure I will be able to achieve my dream,” she says.
The 12-year-old, who wish to make a difference in our country, was involved in the activities of the Nirbhaya Foundation. “I was eight and since then I wanted to make a difference in our country. I am doing my best,” she mentions, adding, “My parents, friends and school management are very supportive. I wouldn’t have come so far without their constant encouragement. When my friends came to know about my victory, they were all happy.”
Her mother Deepa, who is an educationist, is all praise for her younger daughter — “The pageant witnessed over 30 countries with more than 65 contestants. And India has bagged the title for the first time in 17 years! That is something exciting and we are really proud of our daughter. She is a very confident girl and balances her studies and her other interests very well. Though there were many challenges, we, as a family, are supporting her tremendously. The one thing we have taught her from day one is to ‘fly high, but stay rooted’ and luckily she is following it to the tee,” says the proud mother.
Deepa reveals that her daughter is planning to focus more on social causes. “She wants her Girl Power project going on in full throttle. Though she has a lot of modelling offers pouring in, she is quite choosy about it,” she sums up.
