A whimsy of shades & silhouettes
Ladies, it’s time to get your snag on with some stellar sartorial choices this season. And this time around, it’s all about saying it with deeper hues and standout cutouts. City based designers list major hits to give your personal style an easy revamp.
“Solid colours have been synonymous with elegance and are striking enough to do on their own – without the need of intricate designs patterns to create that eye-catchy appeal. Also, if you look at the traditional Indian textile and the fabrics, it’s quite certain that bright hues like royal red, emerald, navy blue, whites with a smattering of gold have always been preferred. That said, and keeping the winters in mind, it’s about creating a fusion, where tradition meets western. For starters, experiment by pairing a blood red off shoulder blouse with a peacock blue palazzo. Metallic accessories are in, too. For those who’re want to go all out with the seasons trend, pick an off shoulder jumpsuit in one solid colour,” suggests Prerana Sarkar, a women’s apparel designer.
Albeit solid colours being in vogue, there’s always a way to break off from a colour rut, says designer Devika Kalia.
“For women who’d want to make a statement without necessarily sticking to the standard solids, it’s best recommended to pick rare colour combinations from varied colour families. For instance, peach and darker hues of orange are a colour combination that wins hands down. Swap that regular blue for a mix of Indigo blue and mint green!” she opines.
Busting some of popular notions about sporting standout cutouts, Devika adds. “Yes, it’s always nice to show some skin – without making it seem shoddy. However, before going in for off shoulders and back cutouts, one must keep their body type in mind. While you don’t need to be slim to wear falling shoulders, women on the bulkier side should opt for cold shoulder tops, which gives an illusion of a narrow shoulder.”
Adding to how hip-heavy women can sport the style in panache, Soumya Patel, a stylist and designer adds, “For those with broader shoulders and a heavier hip, go for broader necklines. This draws the attention from the shoulders. Also, choose the lingerie as per the fabric of the attire so that the beauty of the silhouette is best reflected. Go for full cup bras for tops with Lycra fabric, and always go for padded bras snug fitted tops.” Reiterating the need to create a balance, she concludes, “The idea is to create an effortlessly sassy vibe with flowy silhouettes.”
