BFF fashionistas!
When friends Pavithra Sagar and Nikita Bajaj aren’t travelling the world looking for design inspiration, they are binge watching their favourite Netflix series Narcos together. Perhaps it is this camaraderie between them that has seen the duo take the pop-up scene by storm, so much so that they are a force to reckon with.
They kick started their fashion initiative in 2015 for the new age woman. In just three years, the brand has presented about 11 pop up shows in three Indian cities Chennai, Bengaluru and Jaipur.
Born into an entrepreneurial family in Jaipur, with added degrees in marketing and finance, Nikita manages the back office works of managing the brand, whereas Pavithra, who is a former merchandiser looks for quirky new designs. “Although we are not designers, we keep ourselves updated on what is trending in every corner of the world,” shares Nikita.
During their recent trip to Bangkok, they discovered a lot of gypsy trends which can be given a twist of sorts and they’ll be in vogue again. “We met with a lot of designers and models there which gave us a new perspectives on the trend.”
Talking about their tale of friendship, Pavithra shares, “We met through a common friend and we clicked immediately. The common passion for fashion brought us together and similar interests never bring any differences of opinion.” Nikita adds, “When we’re walking on a street and we see a new dress, we know what the other is thinking and is going to say about that dress. We just complete each other’s sentences! I am happy we met. Since we both belong to the ‘jack of all trades’ bandwagon, we don’t exactly split the work to be done. We just sit and do it together!”
“The main concern is that many fashion brands don’t provide clothes for women of all body types and bigger brands mean more people wearing the same kind of clothes. That is why our pop-up happening every quarter year ensures budget-friendly and new kinds of apparel for a few months,” reveals Nikita.
Well-known in the social scene, both Pavithra and Nikita enjoy wide networks of friends and acquaintances that have made them two of Chennai’s favourite divas. But the ladies did face some challenges when they began their journey initially. “We started off in an art-gallery and now we’re looking for popular hotels with a large space, because our collection has grown in multitude. It was a tough journey but we made it. It was all to do with our interest,” they say.
The partners conclude, “We’re different in our ways and that’s how it works. Although I like understated, classy and contemporary clothes like Audrey Hepburn’s designs and Pavithra likes the bright and quirky new designs, we try to incorporate both into our themes and choose our designers accordingly!”
