Here comes the bride
The 3rd edition of the Madras Bridal Fashion Show has an eclectic line-up of designers showcasing a veritable cornucopia of cuts, colours and textures. Highlights include handloom aficionado Shravan Kumar from Hyderabad, the multi-talented Rehana Basheer from Chennai, Vaani Raghupathy Vivek also from Chennai, Bangalorean Aparnas and many more.
The fashion extravaganza has been loving put together by founder Shanmugapriya Dhinesh and will be held this evening at the ITC Grand Chola. The specially curated array of designers will focus on opulent, luxurious bridal wear.
Shanmugapriya tells us “This is the perfect time to have the show as it is the start of the festive season.” The organiser also discusses how the weather is mercifully a bit cooler compared to the sweltering summer in Chennai and hence allows designers to present silk and other heavy fabrics.
Couturier Shravan Kumar confides “Fashion is my religion. This is not work for me. I must confess - I completely consumed by what I do.” Just what we want to hear from one of the headliner’s of the show! He explains “I showcase only handlooms and I work extensively with an NGO - Aalayam that supports widows all over India. These wonderful weavers give me Benares (yardage), Pochampally (ikat), Irkal and Kasha silks. The line-up is very demure as I this is the best way to showcase our handicrafts so I have lots of sarees and gowns.”
A relative newbie on the Chennai fashion block Vaani tells us “My collection ‘Bloom’ celebrates the feminine side of life. All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind. You will find pretty prints in a mix of silk, chiffon and organza that for a modern bride.” All this and so much more tonight, we can hardly wait.
