Chic and splitzy!
Here’s a fresh trend to amp up your style in the ethnic department! If you were looking for something besides a saree to rock a classy yet poised look, you should definitely pick up a slit kurti. The slit kurti makes for a stunning look on any ordinary day. This style essentially has one slit, in the middle or to one side. Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt was recently spotted at a song launch event wearing a pastel slit kurta. She rocked the look with a fabulous pair of pattern cigarette pants and daring heels. Celebrities like Karishma Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have also sported this chic, ethnic look.
For a slit kurti, why take the boring old route and pair it with a simple leggings? There is a lot of space for experimenting with the whole look. Aswathi Balakrishnan, a fashion blogger encourages going the extra mile when you don it. “It’s very fashionable for Indian wear and definitely makes for a modernised look. Slit kurtis have been revamped from maxi tops. It’s a cutting edge look for daily wear, when you pair it with shorts or even a skirt,” she says. But here’s what you have to watch out for when you’re trying to nail the look: “The length of the slit should be taken into consideration when styling such an outfit,” says Nischita Babu, a stylist. “This is a rather new trend for kurtis. The length of the slit that you choose for, can make or break the outfit. If the slit is quite high, opt for a pair of palazzo or even cigarette pants as it can give a taller silhouette. A high slit is more ideal for a tall or lean person while a medium-high slit works well on everyone,” she adds.
City-based designer Soniya Thiyam explains how a slit kurta can gives you a rather appealing silhouette. “The length of the slit, can make you look slimmer than you actually are and can give you more definition. This kurti is also appropriate for a workplace,” she says. “Choosing the right pattern and fabric is vital to the look you wish to create. Plain, pastel colours or a little floral print can make for an elegant, poised look. For a quirky yet classy twist, add a belt and pair the kurti with culottes,” she adds.
