Former yesteryear stars like Neetu Kapoor and Hema Malini rocked polka dots in old world Bollywood movies. The word retro and polka dots now a days get on like a house on fire. Polka dots takes a break every other fashion season but they definitely make an appearance like they did this season. Actresses like Alia Bhatt, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone to Vaani Kapoor, all them have flaunted the polkas before.
Timeless in every sense, polka dots always seem to make its way back to the runways every other season. Designer Prachita Devi shares, “For me, polka dots = retro. This is a trend that come back with a very short gap. It is one trend that you can really around with.” But without any upgrades, they will just remain plain old black and white dots. “This season, foil prints are trending, so polka dots in foil prints will be welcomed change moving away from digital and printed polka dots,”she shares adding that it will be a fresh take this Spring Summer season.
For a perfect day out, designer Selma Lobo suggests, “Polka dots sit well when paired with denims. A top with a well fitted pair of subtle boot cut jeans or a polka dot dress with a denim jacket is perfect for a day out with your gang.” The best news is yet to come! Polkas can be worn for professional settings if styled right. “A polka dot blazer paired with formal shirt and pants is perfect for an office setting. But try going for dots that are not flashy. It should be in neutral colours and not have over the top colours,” shares designer Sparsha KP.
An excess of polka dots or in many colours will end up making you look like clown which not how you want to look. Sparsha cautions, “For a professional setting, opt for small to medium polka dots. You can however colour block with trend. For example; a white and black polka dot top will look great with a red ruffled skirt.” In the case of jewellery, all that Selma suggest you need is oversized earrings and an avant guard watch. While Prachita suggests, “You can try layered necklaces that has four to five layers, studs in you ear and keep the make-up fresh and clean with just a pop of colour. This is perfect of Spring Summer.”
