A little lip gloss goes a long way
Move over matte lips because a glossy touch is here to stay. For those who have been waiting for this trend to return, now is the right time to try it on. Dewy lips are a huge fall-winter 2019 trend, and you couldn’t have possibly missed the models at Naeem Khan, Badgely Mishka and Christopher Kane shows wearing them for the runway looks.
Matte lipstick took over the market with a storm and were all the rage among fashionistas. But not anymore! Lip glosses are back in vogue and we can’t get enough of it.
While lip gloss was a huge trend in the 90s’, the extra shine touch was slowly replaced by subtle muted tones of matte shades with time. However, after a long time gap the glossy look is in again, says makeup artist Kaajee Rai, as he adds, “Glossy lips look full, rich and sexy; and I feel transparent gloss is and always will be in fashion. These days, a lot of beauty bloggers and brands are launching a new range in the lip gloss category and the glitter gloss is one of the most popular shade along with pink, purple, burgundy and neons. While buying lip gloss, look for a thick consistency and avoid the super liquid ones for a long-lasting effect.”
If you are looking for a glamorous night out or wondering how to get a sultry selfie like Kylie Jenner, don’t think much and add a dash of lip gloss for an instant sexy addition. Makeup and beauty artist Aamer Zakir tells you how to apply it correctly, as he explains, “The glossy nude lips are a huge trend this year, you can also go for colours like bold pink, red or plum lip gloss that will look flattering on all skin tones. To get glossy pouts without a lip filler or surgery, start with a sharp lip liner and fill it with your desired lip colour. Apply a layer of lip gloss in the same shade, and you are ready to rock. If you have really thin lips, then prime your lips with a concealer or foundation to create a base layer, after which you can overline your lips. For an added volume, apply a pale/pink lipstick and then use a super glossy lip gloss in a paler/nude/pink shade and give a full lips effect.”
Whereas, makeup artist Anindita Chaudhary insists on prepping up lips before applying gloss for a long day event or a chic night out. She recommends, “Exfoliate your lips and then apply some lip balm. This allows your lips to be moisturised for a long time. For a long-lasting effect, I prefer lining lips with a liner then applying a nice matte long-lasting lipstick and then top it with clear lip gloss. If you wish to buy coloured lip gloss, pick more natural nude colours, because no one likes a dark lip colour that bleeds.”
Lip glosses tend to bleed outside your lip lines if not applied correctly and the key is to dab the gloss only in the center of your lips and spread it outward. Smack your lips together and you’ll have a perfect glossy pout, advices Jerusha Chande, head content and beauty expert at a makeup brand. Speaking about how to choose the gloss for your skin tone, Chande informs, “The most versatile lip glosses are usually clear formulas or shades with a tint of pink, mauve or brown. Because they’re sheer, and your natural lip colour shows through, these shades suit all skin tones. For opaque lip glosses, you’d pick a shade according to your undertone. Warm undertones you can flaunt are warm reds, warm pinks, oranges, and gold. For cool undertones – cool reds, pinks, purples, and mauves look best. Our choice to go glamorous, with a bold red lip topped with a striking gold gloss.”
