A little Peak a Boo
Sartorial alert, ladies! On the lookout for a contemporary fix of fashion? It’s time to go from within – quite literally! We’re talking about stepping up your style game by letting your bra straps make a peek a boo.
But while you're at it, let’s get this straight – the idea may seem tempting, it’s important to tread with caution. And justifiably so – as acing the look could mean exuding a snazzy grunge vibe, while going overboard could spell downright shoddy. But who’s to say how much is a tad much? We get city-based fashion experts and curators to comment.
Strappy Shenanigans: “Contrary to what it seemed like ages ago, bra showing doesn’t always equate to tarty dressing anymore. That said, I also believe women clearly need to have a demarcation of sorts – the idea is to lend a jazzy vibe to your attire, and not ruin it. Pick a pristine loose fitted white vest with deep arm holes is the best bet while wanting to flaunt your bra straps. Even intricately ruffled tops are neat options. Same goes with sporty and casual attires. Also, remember to pick your innerwear in a contrast shade,” opines Farah Magi, a fashion stylist and curator.
Speaking about how the selection of the bra type is absolutely imperative, for such a trend, Tasneem Bohra, a stylist says, “Embellished and patterned bra straps are strongly recommended if you intend to let your bra strap show. Also, no matter how perfectly fitted it may seem, it’s always a great idea to alter the straps to your convenience. It’s important to strike a balance – while revealing bra straps, ensure the top isn’t transparent and choose well-fitted spaghetti tops.”
Sharing a cardinal rule to carry off the look with élan, Farah signs off by stating, “The idea is to give out a very I-couldn’t-care-less vibe. The dressing needs to be very minimalistic, casual and preferably grunge. If you’re tempted to try the trend, make sure you start with a transparent strap. Also, it’s absolutely important to not accessorise or look a little too concerned. Look comfortable.”
