Sneaky' style at play

Sneakers are hot this season, which means that they aren't just for the gym anymore.

The fashion circles are getting comfy in their sporty twos and the runways are showing us just why. Your old and faithful friends, the sneakers are back and aren’t for the gym anymore. As they ease from the fitness district into a lifestyle statement, Bengaluru’s style influencers put together minimal-effort outfit ideas to help you look trim and ‘sneaky’. You’re welcome.

Dress + Sneakers

The funny thing about sneaker trends is that they often aren’t new styles. They are old styles revived by the right people,” says Smrithi Rao of Vintage Obsession, noting that the general trend has graduated from loving white sneakers to embracing sneakers in general. “My go-to outfit idea is to wear them with dresses and pencil skirts. Also, a kurta paired with shorts and sneakers is high on my list. Maxi skirts with sneakers, I think, is very quirky and takes some effort to pull off,” says the city blogger.

Printed shirt and trouser + blazer + white sneakers

According to Sandeep Nandi of Muffins on Style, the white sneaker is the new black when it comes to menswear. “It can be paired with anything – denims, joggers, shorts or semi formals!” he says, letting us in on the trend. For the India Fashion Week, the city blogger combined what he calls the ‘biggest crush’ for men this spring – a printed shirt and a printed trouser. “And who better than the lovely white sneaker to break the print on print?” he says.

Bodycon dress + denim shirt + high top sneakers

This is a timeless trend and it has never been out of fashion,” says Gia of Dash of Classic. “If you are short and want a super stylish alternative, you can even opt for wedge sneakers to add height,” says the city-based fashion blogger, adding that the fashion staple can be paired with denim jeans, mid-length skirt or shorts. “Try it on with a cropped blouse, dark denim and finish with a scarf wrapped around as a belt,” she says about a spring look. If you’re in the mood for accessories, chunky Indian jewellery is the way to go!

Suit + minimalist trainers

Ambrish Sonari of Boy in a Bowtie believes it’s fancy to wear sneakers with a suit! “Keep your choice of trainer minimal. It may not always be appropriate, but it will lend your otherwise serious bossy suit a casual, up-to-the-minute edge,” he says, pairing aqua blue pants and a crisp white shirt with a grey blazer, navy tie and black trainers. Observing that trainers are now doing the rounds in high-end territories, the city blogger notes, “It’s not just styling habits that have changed; trainers themselves have upped their game, with handcrafted sneakers made using premium materials.”
