Inspired by the Nizami grandeur

Well-known fashion designer Anushree Reddy's collection at the Lakme Fashion Week was inspired by the Hyderabadi princess, Niloufer.

Opulence is the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of Anushree Reddy’s Festive/Winter collection, Niloufer. The Hyderabad-based designer made use of elaborate embroidery work and traditional zardosi techniques to create a fabulous wedding collection of beautiful lehengas. Anushree’s inspiration for the collection was the Hyderabadi princess Niloufer.

With Nizami palaces projected in the background, the models strutted down displaying a variety of scallops, frills, ruffles and floating silhouettes in silk and organza.

When showstopper Nargis Fakri walked out in her opulent, yellow scalloped lehenga, a blouse with heavy zardosi work and a pink chiffon dupatta, she seemed to embody everything that a bride wants to look like on her special day. “My designs are inspired by Niloufer, who was the most loved princess of Hyderabad. The embroidery work is inspired from the olden era and the use of zardosi too, is typical of Hyderabadi traditions of those times,” said Anushree, explaining the idea behind her collection. “I have made use of a lot of silk, as well as chiffon and organza, since these were fabrics that the princess preferred,” she added.

Nargis also seemed overjoyed to wear Anushree’s outfit. “You want to feel super special on your wedding day, and I think Anushree’s work entails all of that,” she smiled.

Anushree was also all praises about the actress. “It’s always a pleasure to work with Nargis and she looks fabulous in my clothes,” she said.
