Off shoulder and cold shoulder tops: Flirty and flattering!
Yes, shoulders are officially in. From Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra to Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha, many B-Town celebrities have been sporting the new look. If you are not sure about what to wear on your big night out, just give them a cold shoulder. Just like these divas. From chic tops to sultry strapless dresses, there are a plenty of ways to rock the look. The cold shoulder was super popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s and it just made a huge comeback this season. “It’s so true — what a beautiful part of the body to show off,” says celebrity fashion stylist, Indrakshi Ria Pattanaik, who has styled Tollywood celebrities such as Regina Cassandra and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
“It’s sexy without being overt and it’s fun. It can be in denim or in sheer chiffon, or even in a sweater. What makes this trend cool is that it’s universal. It even looks good on the red carpet! No matter what your size, there’s a cold shoulder you must try,” adds the stylist. She also tells us that it’s her personal favourite and she loves the cold shoulder look with bell sleeves. And what’s the perfect way to accessorise a cold shoulder? With chokers. You can team up your cold shoulder top or shirt with a flowy skirt or there are plenty of options in jumpsuits and dresses as well. There is something for every girl, says Indrakshi.
From highstreet brand Forever 21, H&M and Zara to International runaways, everyone is carrying the look. Designers Anushree Reddy and Anita Dongre showcased the look at the recent Lakme Fashion Week. Also, at the New York Fashion Week 2016, many supermodels showcased the cold-shoulder look. Archana Rao, city-based designer and the winner of Vogue India Fashion Fund, says, “I think the fashion world has moved on from crop tops to cold shoulders. It’s the most convenient trend as it looks good on all people. Shoulders are a part of the body that look mostly slim, no matter what size you are. Hence, anyone can carry it.” A white cotton top for a day-out or a black top for an evening party – off and cold shoulders are the most versatile of current trends, adds Archana.
